LESS IS MORE

Today is the beginning of a new work week but our President brings into it all that he started when he took his oath of office and many other issues that have surfaced since. He is smart, calm and I truly believe his heart and mind are in the right place. As I see things, it is the job of the American people to get behind our elected President and support his efforts.

America is in trouble; that is something I never thought I would say. I am not a political person or maybe I should say I wasn’t. I have no real background in politics, just lived a great deal of life. I am sixty- three, born after the Second World War; I suppose you would call me a baby boomer. The difference between me and many others is the way I lived my life. Therefore, my view and my perspective are somewhat different than most.

The one thing I have always been is a good American. I am a good citizen. I am proud of my country and I have always loved being born and raised in America. I wish we could turn the clock back on some of the things that have happened with the passing of time and recover the innocence we once had as a country. An example of that would be the respect we once held for our elected officials and each other. Where has it all gone? Where have many of the simple things that made this country great gone? Why are things so very different than they once were? The internet, television, movie stars, drugs, politicians... What is it that now seems different in America? Gone from everyday life for so many and where did it all go? No where; that is the answer. Everything is still right here. I am just not sure we are utilizing all our resources, remembering some of the most basic and important factors as to why so many wanted to live in America and still do. We as a country were a beacon of civilized behavior but are we still holding ourselves to that standard? Are we living and teaching to the best of our abilities or are some of us expecting someone else will do it for us?

I was raised in Philadelphia, a big city with a small town spirit. Quite a wonderful place, loaded with history and wonderful sights. Philadelphia is truly the birthplace and hub of American freedom. I wonder as our children run wild in the streets, selling drugs, shooting guns, randomly killing, destroying neighborhoods that were once peaceful, what are they thinking? What do you think they are trying to accomplish? Do they have a goal, or is the violence just random? Does this come from fear, ignorance, lack of love or supervision or just good old fashioned peer pressure? These are questions I believe we need answers for. That is why I am going to ask. I am in quite a state over the condition of these children and need ask: what has happened to the children of this country?

I ask because our President needs our help to get this country back on its feet. For anything to stand it must have a good foundation. The foundation is the heart and soul of all things; this country had a strong foundation and there have always been violence. The settlers fought for the land with the American Indian and we all know how that went. We had to overtake the British and we all know how that went. Eventually we fought the North against the South and called it “The Civil War”. That was before my time but it has never seemed civil to me. Let it be known that I do not believe any war is civil, maybe necessary, but not civil. So we end up with a lot of innocent people fighting under the orders of a few chosen men and women. They fight because they love their countries, they love their homeland whichever one it is. War comes at a price, a very big price. I am not so naïve that I think we can just live in peace but I know that every time a person dies in a war, some family grieves. Grief is universal and burying children is a heartbreak in any country, in any language or any religion all in the name of peace. War and the death it causes seem to almost be a contradiction to life and the peace all are fighting for.

Getting back to our country, America the beautiful, let us start making a plan: help me! We can start as concerned citizens and build from there. We have issues that I know we can help deal with if we organize our thoughts and efforts. I will bring you my conversations and thoughts for open discussions and we can start making plans. If we work together and start out with a small project and have our first success, we can move on from there. Let us take back our country and remember how wonderful it used to be to walk the streets safely anytime day or night. To let our children out to play without fear that someone will sweep them away or run them down or shoot them in front of their own house and we will never see them back at our dinner table. Let us start in our own neighborhoods. I have ideas, they are simple, sometimes simple is better. Did you ever hear the expression "Less is More", that is what I am going for!

Thank you for your interest, until my next post...
